Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. You do not need a physician's referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario. However, some extended health insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement, so it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider before your appointment.
-
Your first appointment will begin with a conversation about your health history, symptoms, goals, and any questions you have. We'll then complete an assessment tailored to your concerns, followed by education and, when appropriate, treatment. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your condition and a personalized plan moving forward. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily, and if you're attending for a pelvic health assessment, we may discuss whether an internal examination is appropriate—but it is always optional and completed only with your informed consent.
-
Absolutely! Babies are always welcome. I understand that childcare isn't always available, and that especially during the postpartum period, it's not always practical—or desirable—to be away from your baby. Whether they sleep through the visit, need to be fed, or simply want to be close to you, we'll work around their needs and make the appointment as comfortable and productive as possible.
-
Yes. Being on your period does not prevent you from having a pelvic health assessment or treatment. If you're comfortable, we can proceed as planned. If you'd prefer to reschedule, that's completely okay too.
-
No. An internal assessment is never required and will only be performed with your informed consent. It is often the best way to assess pelvic floor muscle function, but your comfort is always the priority. We will discuss your symptoms, explain the assessment, and decide together what feels right for you. External assessment and treatment options are always available.
-
You don't need to wait until you're experiencing symptoms to benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy. Many people choose to come during pregnancy to prepare for labour and birth, manage aches and pains, or learn how to support their body as it changes throughout pregnancy and postpartum.
If you're wondering when to book, I often recommend three key visits:
Second trimester: Establish a baseline of your core and pelvic floor function, address any discomfort, and develop strategies to support your pregnancy.
34–36 weeks: A dedicated labour and delivery preparation appointment to discuss pushing techniques, birth positions, perineal massage, breathing strategies, and recovery planning.
Around 6 weeks postpartum: Assess your healing after a vaginal or cesarean birth, address any pelvic floor or core concerns, and safely guide your return to exercise and daily activities.
That said, these are simply recommendations—not requirements. Whether you're newly postpartum, several months into motherhood, or even years after having your children, it's never too early—or too late—to seek care.
-
Yes. While seeking care sooner can sometimes help prevent symptoms from worsening, many people experience meaningful improvements even if they've been living with symptoms for years.
A comprehensive assessment can help identify the factors contributing to your symptoms and guide a treatment plan that's tailored to your body, your lifestyle, and your goals.
You don't have to wait for symptoms to become "bad enough" to seek support, and it's never too late to get started.

I see infants and children of all ages, with a particular interest in supporting babies and young children through their early development. Whether you have questions about your baby's feeding, head shape, torticollis, motor milestones, or your child's movement and physical development, care is tailored to your child's unique needs and your family's goals.
If you're unsure whether physiotherapy is the right fit for your child, I'd be happy to chat and help guide you in the right direction.
-
Please bring anything that will help your child feel comfortable, such as a favourite toy, comfort item, snack, or bottle if needed. For infants, a change of clothes and diapers can also be helpful.
If your child has had any relevant medical reports, imaging, or referrals, you're welcome to bring those along as well.
Most importantly, come prepared to share any questions or concerns you have. Together, we'll discuss your child's development, movement, and goals to create a plan that's right for your family.

My clinic space is located in Cobden, Ontario, serving clients throughout the Ottawa Valley. You'll receive detailed directions and parking information when you book your appointment.
-
At this time, I do not offer direct billing. Payment is due at the time of your appointment, and you'll receive a detailed physiotherapy receipt that can be submitted to your extended health insurance provider for reimbursement. Most insurance plans allow clients to submit claims quickly and easily through their online portal or mobile app.
If you have questions about your coverage, I recommend contacting your insurance provider before your appointment.
-
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice so that the appointment can be offered to another client.
I understand that life happens, which is why every client receives one late cancellation or reschedule "freebie" per calendar year. After that, late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) and missed appointments will be charged the full appointment fee.
If you need to make a change to your appointment, please contact me as soon as possible.
